April 10, 2008 – MOVIE: THE KITE RUNNER – 7PM
Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini touched millions of readers around the world with his best-selling first novel, THE KITE RUNNER. A moving tale of childhood friends growing up in war-torn Afghanistan, respected director Marc Forster (MONSTER’S BALL, FINDING NEVERLAND, STRANGER THAN FICTION) brings this powerful story to the screen. The KITE RUNNER provides us with an insightful look into the history, culture, as well as the deep-rooted problems that plague Afghanistan. Although there are many light-hearted moments in the film, those familiar with the novel will know that there are some scenes of violence that are fundamental to the story. In spite of this, we feel that the insights gained by watching this film make it well worth watching.

Our Get–together after the film will be at McKeck’s Place. Thank you to Walt and the gang for always providing us with great service and with complimentary cheese and crackers !!

The money raised came from a portion of the evening’s ticket sales - the film’s distributor matched this donation, and from tickets sold to the Forget-Me-Not Soiree reception and auction.

April's movie night is still several weeks away but your movie committee is already busy making plans.
We are extremely fortunate that the FILM CIRCUIT GROUP has selected Haliburton's THOSE OTHER MOVIES to show the amazing new film AWAY FROM HER before its general release to the public. We are also thrilled to announce that the film's director, Sarah Polley, will be our guest at the screening on Thursday, April 12th.
All profits from this evening will be donated to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada. This is entirely fitting, as the film AWAY FROM HER is about a couple struggling with this cruel disease.

FEBRUARY 8, 2007 MOVIE - CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHER WOMEN 7PM
February's movie, "CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHER WOMEN" is an American film that received several major awards from a variety of prestigious international film festivals in 2006. Despite all the critical acclaim this film and its actors received, the movie had an extremely limited theatrical release. We are fortunate that we can bring "CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHER WOMEN" to Haliburton. Please go to the MOVIE page of this website to read more about "CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHER WOMEN".

After the movie we will be heading over to TRACEY"S BISTRO & GRILL for some lively conversation about "CONVERSATIONS". We also are planning a fun little game that, we hope, will relate to both the movie and the fact that Valentine's Day will soon be upon us. Should be a laugh!

JANUARY 11, 2007 MOVIE - "THE ROCKET " - 7pm
This month's THOSE OTHER MOVIES movie is the Canadian film "THE ROCKET" starring Roy Dupuis, Patrick Robitaille, Remy Girard and Julie Le Breton. The Rocket is, of course, none other than hockey legend Maurice "the Rocket" Richard. The film captures the culture of hockey in its early days, and more importantly, conveys what Richard meant and still means to the Quebecois and to hockey fans everywhere.
With Canada's junior hockey team's third world championship victory this week, what a great time to screen this uniquely Canadian film and celebrate our national game.
After the movie, please join us across the road at McKeck's (where else?)and wear your hockey jersey. We will be asking people to tell their favourite hockey stories - whether as a player, a spectator or just a fan. Should be alot of fun!

DECEMBER 14TH'S MOVIE: "JOYEUX NOEL"

Due to the tremendous public response, there will be TWO screenings on Thursday December 14th.
Season’s pass holders can go to either screening. Tickets will be sold at the door, starting 45 minutes before screen time. (12:15 and 6:15): Tickets are $7.00.
